When looking at the "Digital Divide" page on Wikipedia, there is a lot of information already included. However, what is unique about the digital divide is that there is always updates and new efforts being put into place since it is a current issue. When searching "digital divide" in Google News, I came across an article about telecom's new broadband network that is being used in Namibia. The project started in mid 2010 and is on its way towards completion very soon. It is called The SkyEdge II Broadband Satellite Network. It provides network connectivity to both businesses and residents that will be capable of reaching remote areas. In regards to the digital divide, it will help Namibia to stay on track with the expanding market and their rural geography.
This specific network provides multiple services such as high quality voice, broadband data, and video services. It will also allow for Wi-Fi hotspots in hotels, and a variety of locations in the area. They hope that this will help the current residents in the area of communication since the country has a very low population. In previous years, equipment such as Dialaway VSAT and Faraway VSAT have been used so the country will be receiving an upgrade that will be much more efficient.
